On the doorstep of my mind, There are voices that always seem to rise, Sounds are distant but loud enough to make me listen I feel there’s nowhere to hide Layering whispers in my ear, Tell me things I know I’m scared to hear But to give in to this weaker part of me It’s my choice, to follow or lead It won’t shake me, No this little voice won’t shake me No prisoner lies inside of me No enemy within It won’t shake me, No this little voice won’t shake me No prisoner lies inside of me No enemy within No it won’t shake me, No this little voice won’t shake me No prisoner lies inside of me No enemy within No enemy within No enemy within

You won’t be here with me tonight You’re out of sight, not out of mind How I long to hold you in my arms again Relive those moments that we shared again Those moments that brought us joy Togetherness, but now what’s left? Losing you In losing you It’s hard to accept that you’re not here Here no more In losing you In losing you, There’s an empty place Empty place within my heart Now you’re not here In losing you In losing you It’s hard to accept that you’re not here Here no more In losing you In losing you, There’s an empty place Empty place within my heart Now you’re not here no more Here no more Always in my thoughts Never lost, never lost in my thoughts Never losing you

Sitting in my bed Silence consumes me Thought I heard you moving But you’re not there Reflecting on what happened It’s no one’s fault; it happened End of a chapter I won’t forget Through loss we learn That now is all we have Our time is short So live for now Once you’re gone There’s no coming back Sitting in my bed Silence comforts me I look around and I’m at peace with what I see Reflecting on this moment It’s all I need, this moment End of a chapter There’s no coming back Through loss we learn That now is all we have Our time is short So live for now Through loss we learn That now is all we have Our time is short So live for now For once you’re gone There’s no coming back Through loss we learn

about

No Enemy Within marks the start of Lachlan’s new path as an artist, centred around songwriting and the intriguing sounds of the 21st-century Swiss-made steel sound sculpture known as the ‘handpan’. With the handpan still growing as an artform, the album invites listeners to experience a sound that has been explored very little in this part of the world. The healing tones of the instrument are the centrepiece of this recording; however, the uplifting messages of the album - and themes of family, self-acceptance, presence and loss - have been brought to life by some of Australia's finest young musicians including New York-based vocalist Laureana and Jo Davie, a rising star in the national folk landscape. The recording process itself has been close to a 3-year collaboration with renowned Brisbane producer Steve Thornely; together, they have crafted new ways of recording this rare instrument and have created an accessible collection of music that appeals to people from all walks of life and musical tastes - particularly folk and world music lovers, jazz enthusiasts and supporters of sound healing and meditation-like soundscapes.

In Lachlan's words:
"No Enemy Within" is inspired by the African proverb: "Where there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do us no harm." I first heard these words when listening to one of my heroes, Les Brown – one of the most powerful communicators in the world. These words deeply resonated with me because they speak of the internal dialogue we often have with ourselves, the anxiety and fear that exists in the world today and the need for us to have self-acceptance, inner strength and clarity now more than ever.

Through the beautiful steel sound sculpture known as the ‘handpan’, I've been able to find a space where I can explore this self-acceptance, where I can reach for things outside my comfort zone, and where I can express my thoughts and emotions through songwriting in a refreshingly new light. What I've also found is that this instrument has a profound ability to connect and heal others. I've seen these many times throughout my involvement with the music therapy initiative known as the 'Stairwell Project' (several of the compositions featured on this album are inspired by this deeply rewarding experience) as well as through my recent travels as a handpan player.

These are the main reasons that I feel now is the time to release this music that means so much to me; this album carries an uplifting message that I feel the world needs to hear.
