Forge Ahead is a jam-style piece that I originally wrote for my first
handpan, an Australian-made handpan known as the Pi. After
acquiring my first Saraz, I decided to re-adapt the 12-bar melody
to the new pan but it was in the studio with Steve and Sophie
where the song really came to life. When I had previously played
this song live, I felt the need to race through it and play with this
frantic energy! In the studio, however, we learned that the song can
sit really well and have more of a relaxed feel at a slightly slower
tempo. This has been such a refreshing discovery and it’s made me
approach my handpan playing in a totally new way.
